It is May. The thermometer is climbing past 38°C on Sheikh Zayed Road. In four weeks, every AC unit in the country is going to start working twice as hard — and ours have just six weeks to flag any weak spots before peak season takes over.
Step 1 — Clean (or replace) the filter
Dirty filters are the single most common cause of underperforming ACs we see. Pull each filter, vacuum the dust, rinse with cold water and re-install once fully dry. If it is over three years old or visibly damaged, replace it.
- Time required: 15 minutes per unit
- Cost: AED 0 for cleaning, AED 35 for a new filter
Step 2 — Hose down the outdoor condenser
Whether you have a split system or a ducted central AC, the outdoor unit collects sand, leaves and street dust. A gentle hose-down from above can reclaim 8–12% of efficiency overnight. Switch off at the DB board first — don't spray a live unit.
"The number one upgrade you can make to an old AC is just a clean condenser."
Step 3 — Check the drain line
Condensate drains clog with biofilm in spring; when they do, the tray overflows and you wake up to wet ceilings. Pour 200 ml of warm water with a teaspoon of bleach down the indoor unit's drain pan; let it sit for an hour and rinse.
Or skip the work
If any of the above sounds like a Friday you don't want, our AMC packages bundle four AC visits a year for less than the cost of a single emergency call-out in August. We do steps 1–3 quarterly and stamp the photo log in your customer app.
